The Custom Properties section will allow you to create additional pieces of information to add to certain request types. For instance, you could add a URL property to a content filter request type. This feature allows you to make the "form" for each ticket different. You can ask for any piece of information on any request type that will assist the technician in resolving the problem.
To add a custom property, click on Add Custom Property in the bottom left. You can then enter the Property Name, Description, Data Type, and Matching F&E Property. The name of the custom property is how it will be entitled on the request type. The name needs to be clear for the end-users to understand the desired information. Remember that campus, room, priority, and detailed request are default options and DO NOT need to be created as custom properties. Any description that is entered will be viewable as a question mark next to the custom property field as well.
The data type for a custom property is very important. Make sure to choose a data type that will not limit you! Almost anything can be stored as "text". Only use number or decimal if you want to FORCE the end-user to enter a numeric value. Use decimal over number if you want to allow fractional values. The option list data type will allow you to specify a series of items to choose from in a drop down list. This is very useful for ensuring the model numbers for an item are entered accurately as no typos are allowed. Use "Long Text" when you may need several sentences of information entered into a field. This presents the end-user with a multi-line text box. The other data types are relatively straight forward.
The last option allows you to match a custom property to a data field within Facilities and Events. If your district did not purchase this application, then this feature will not function. Currently, the only field you need to connect to F&E is the barcode/asset tag field. If you have created a barcode/asset tag custom property, simply select Barcode from the drop down list. F&E integration will now work correctly (if enabled) for any request type that uses that custom property.
Remember to click Save after changing any information about a custom property.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Deleting any custom property will remove any information connected to it. Be VERY CAREFUL when deleting custom properties!
