Users can locate and register for eCourses in two different ways. eCourses not only appear under the special course category for eCourses, but also within the standard course categories as well. eCourses are denoted by the small sphere icon.
After selecting an eCourse, you can register for it just as you would a regular course using the green plus register button on the top toolbar.
However, after registering for an eCourse, you will be prompted to begin viewing that course's content within My Portfolio.
The Course Overview tab appears first. Your attendee information, the course credit, any associated goals, and the list of course chapters appear on this screen. You can view a chapter's description by clicking on it. You can then move on to the Course Content tab to view the actual eCourse content.
This screen displays each chapter and allows participants to view chapter content. As a chapter is viewed and the assessments are completed, the icon for that chapter will change into a check mark. Clicking on the View button will actually open the chapter in another window. You can then view each topic and assessment within that chapter.
When viewing the chapter, you can change between topics and assessments using the selections on the left or the arrow buttons in the upper right. By clicking on the top button to View Topic Files, you can then click on any attached file to open it. After viewing the topics, you can then take any practice or graded assessments.
Practice assessments will inform you that they are only for practice and will not be graded. They will also show you the answers when you score them. However, graded assessments will lock your answers when you click the Score Assessment button and will then be reviewed by the instructor. Once a chapter is completed, you can close that window and proceed to the next chapter.
The Instructor Notes tab displays any notes and files uploaded by your eCourse instructor.
The Discussion tab allows participants to respond to instructor questions and interact with other participants in a virtual environment. Attendees can reply to an existing discussion thread or create a new discussion topic. New threads and replies are clearly visible and can be sorted from oldest to newest or newest to oldest by clicking on the wrench icon. Selecting the calendar with the starburst icon will open discussions in a new window.
Note: Discussion comments cannot be deleted or removed!
Once all chapters are completed with green check marks, you can then Request Credit using the button on the top toolbar.
After requesting credit, some courses may require a survey to earn credit. Once the survey is completed, click on Submit Survey. Your eCourse will then be completed and submitted to the instructor for credit approval. This process may change slightly depending on the configuration of the eCourse.
