Creating an Inequality Graphing Question

Inequality graphing allows students to plot one or two dashed or solid lines and choose a region to represent the solution set of an inequality.

To create an interactive response question, begin by either creating a new test in Aware or navigating to an existing test. The TEA suggests inequality graphing for use in math assessments, but inequality graphing is available for any assessment. 

Note: Creating an interactive response question eliminates the possibility of printing the test. A reminder message will appear when an interactive response question is added to an assessment. Eduphoria recommends having two separate tests: an online version created purposefully with interactive questions and a paper-based version for standard testing.

Quick Guide

1. Select the Plus icon to add a new question. 
2. Select Interactive Item Types from the Create Items option. 
3. Select Inequality Graphing from the available interaction types. 
4. Enter the question text. Select Continue when complete.
5. Configure the Inequality Graphing question using the following settings:

• • One or two straight lines
  • Dashed or solid lines 
  • Shaded solution set

6. Select Create when complete.

Step 1: Select the Plus icon to add a new question.

Step 3: Select Inequality Graphing from the available interaction types. 

Step 4: Enter the question text. Select Continue when complete.

Step 5: Configure the Inequality Graphing question using the settings. Options include graphing one or two straight lines, plotting either dashed or solid lines, and shading a solution set. Click on each dot and drag them to the correct points on the graph. Click Solution Set to shade the correct portion of the graph. 

• The Axis Minimum can be set to a range between -15 and 0. The Axis Maximum can be set to a range between 4 and 15. If the minimum and maximum numbers conflict, a graph will not appear until a suitable range is set.

• Keyboard operation of the inequality graph is also possible, but the dots must be plotted somewhere on the graph first in order to be selected. Once there are plotted dots, select Add interactions to the question, then press the Tab key to select the nearest dot. The dot can be moved along both axes using the directional arrow keys. When ready, press the Tab key to select the next dot.

Step 6: Select Create when complete.

Student Experience

Students will see the Inequality Graph question during testing. 

Scoring

Inequality Graphing offers two types of scoring: correct/incorrect and partial credit 0-1-2. Partial credit follows TEA scoring guidelines. 

• Students receive 2 points for graphing both lines and shading the solution set correctly.
• Students receive 1 point for correctly graphing both lines. 
• Students receive 0 points if a line or shading is graphed incorrectly.

Data Analysis

To view question type as a column for data views, open the Columns folder and the Responses folder to select Question Type. 

The Question Type displays the type of question next to the Question Number column in data views. 

Interactive questions display data analysis next to the scores for each question type. The examples below show questions with three interactions. Teachers may view the exact question in the Enter Answers screen and modify student answers if needed. 

Note: For district and campus level tests, the Questions teachers can answer and score option must be set to All Questions for editing privileges.
